What is that dark area?

In all fairness, aren’t there some 20 odd other states just like NC? NC’s just the newest member of the group, right?

If you convince me:

pastaistheopiateofthemasses:

to be Pro-Life: I’ll give you $10

to be against gay marriage: I’ll give you $20

to believe in a God(s): I’ll give you my soul

No, seriously though. Give me your best arguments. I want to train myself in the ways of flawless debating.

Here’s my ask box

No seriously though. Do this. I’m in a pissy mood and I debate the best I’m fired up. Please. I beg you. LET ME PROVE YOU WRONG<3

letpenmeetpaper asked: No one can convince you to be pro-life, or be against gay marriage, or to believe in God. No argument is strong enough to change a person's heart, so if you're heart is set on these things, it will take something much stronger than an argument to change your views. I could give you arguments about the existence of God, or the horror that abortion really is. But I think maybe that's something you need to do your own searching for, with perhaps a little heart-nudge from God.

Well, I disagree. Modern science changes with the new discoveries we find to be true. If I see pure evidence of God’s existence then I’ll have no choice but to believe. If I am presented with a rational argument that disproves the pro-choice one, I’ll become pro-life. Same with gay marriage. “Belief”s require leaps of faith that I refuse to take. I’ll stick with my logic, if I see something to be true/logical, I’ll follow/support it. None of my views are set in stone, no ones should be. If the day comes that I’m disproven, I will admit I was wrong and take up the other side.

This youtube video is seriously the best.

You don’t like gay marriage because you don’t want to have to tell your kids about gay people?

Uh.. this kid is taking the news pretty well. He barely even cares! He’s just like “oh thats cool.. dudes can marry. Ping pong anyone?”

Let me be clear…I chose to post this as a photo instead of reblogging it for several reasons, but the most important is that I don’t want anyone getting the impression that I support this in any way, shape or form.
Normally, I’d just sit by and ignore something like this because I know I’ll end up ranting in such a way that makes me look like an ignorant idiot, and I would probably curse a lot (I never claimed to be perfect). However, I’ve sat down and carefully thought about this before I type, in order to avoid saying anything I’ll regret.
Seeing this sickens me, quite literally. It really saddens me to see that this is what humanity has come to. But anyway, let’s get to the point. I want to clear the air right now, and see just how many people are decent enough to respect me for my beliefs.
I’m Roman Catholic, born and raised. As such:
I do not support gay marriage.
I believe abortion is murder.
I believe the use of contraception is immoral because it separates the creative and unitive purpose of sexual intercourse that was intended by God.
Perhaps less taboo, but I also believe the death penalty is murder. (Just saying that so you know the stereotype saying most people against abortion support the death penalty is FALSE. Contrarily, the majority of Catholics I know would say the same.)
In keeping with this, I believe that the government mandate requiring all employers, hospitals, and charitable organizations (regardless of religion) is not only unconstitutional, but immoral in every way. What most of you imbeciles, in your blatant ignorance and lack of respect, have failed to mention, is that it’s not as SIMPLE as saying, “If you don’t believe in abortions, don’t get one. If you don’t believe in contraception, don’t use it. If you want to pray, do it at home.” (Which you would know if you actually did a little research instead of automatically jumping on the anti-Catholic band wagon.) This mandate will do more than require employees to pay for contraceptive/abortion coverage…all employees, regardless of religious beliefs, will be forced to buy that coverage. Furthermore, the argument, “If you don’t believe in contraception, don’t use it,” is completely irrelevant in this case. Whether we choose to make use of that coverage or not, we’re still funding it for other people. Especially for Catholic employers.
Also, just for the record, the government lies. For example:
They said churches/houses of worship would be exempt. That’s a lie. They will only be exempt IF the majority of their employees and the people they serve are of their same religious values. Since, being Christians and all, we don’t turn people away (employees OR those in need of assistance), the chances of exemptions for these churches don’t look good.
They said “a study” showed that 98% of Catholic women use contraception. (Many of you have gladly used this as ammo as well.) That is also a lie. First of all, even if it were true, people who say they’re Catholic and choose to use contraception (or support gay marriage, or the death penalty, etc.)…really just aren’t. Bottom line. That’s like saying “I’m not a racist, but I think that such and such a race is blah blah blah because blabbity blah.” Well, either you are or you aren’t; there’s no grey area. But I digress. Secondly, it’s a lie anyway! The study says that 98% of “sexually experienced” women use contraception. I don’t see the word “Catholic” anywhere in there.
Finally, I’d just like to say this: If you’re going to say “we need to love and accept people of all religions”, then that includes Catholics. If you’re going to say “we need to respect the rights and beliefs of all people, even if we think they’re wrong”, then that includes Catholics and conservatives. Don’t say it if you don’t mean it. Like I said, no grey area. Either you do or you don’t; either you are or you aren’t. When I say I respect people regardless of their beliefs, I mean it. I have friends whose beliefs are the exact opposite of mine, but I still love and respect them. No, I don’t support gay marriage, but I don’t believe gay people deserve to be treated as less than human, and I don’t treat them like they have a disease. I don’t believe in abortion, but I know people who have had them, and I’ve never told them they were going to go to hell because of what they’ve done. That’s not my place to say, and it never will be.
If you want to unfollow me for this, be my guest. Like I said, it’s my tumblr; I’m glad to have you here, but it’s not here for you.
Oh, and my information came from here: http://usccb.org/news/2012/12-020.cfm

Let’s get this out of the way, I’m an atheist, born and raised. I normally wouldn’t give into ranting something like this but…who am I kidding? I love to rant about my personal views. Why? Because I’m a pretentious douchebag, but that’s besides the point. Let’s start with the beginning and make our way to the end, shall we followers?
The entire 3rd paragraph: Well, I fail to see how the state of humanity represented in the picture is saddening. The picture represents the government of a Secular Democracy in its simplest sense. It protects the rights of the its citizens (Democracy), while also separating Church from State (Secular). History has shown us, that Secularism has led to the success of many great nations, and even today, many of the world’s most progressive nations are Secular Democracies. Heck, the USA was the first nation born as a Secular Democracy and our founding fathers certainly were advocates of Secularism to say the least. So, even if someone found it “saddening”, well then they might as well just leave the country because this nation has been Secular since the day it was born. Vatican City might be more up your alley. (And in case she meant that humanity under Catholicism would be better, well, been there, done that. We call it the Dark Ages nowadays)
“I believe abortion is murder” (Don’t even start with the “Oh that’s the Old Testament” garbage. If you have to pick and choose, it’s not a religion worth believing) Wait…because you’re Catholic, you believe abortion is murder? Um… on at least 4 different occasions (Genesis, Joshua, Samuel, & Isaiah) God was responsible for the death of infants. I fail to see how infants are any more sinful/deserving of death than fetuses. Plus, the fact of the matter is, abortion isn’t murder. It’s not considered a citizen until it’s a baby, and it’s not considered a baby until it’s actually born. Also, IF you consider abortion murder, then what about miscarriages? If God is almighty and omnipotent, in theory, he is responsible for everything and every happening, including miscarriages and even the invention of medical abortion.
“I believe the use of contraception is immoral because it separates the creative and unitive purpose of sexual intercourse that was intended by God.” Contraception is immoral?! Um… using Catholicism as a gauge of morality is quite laughable to say the least. Did God also intend incest and rape to be for “creative and unitive” purposes? Because there are several accounts of God’s followers doing so in the Bible. And again, I bring up that if God truly is omnipotent, he is, in theory, responsible for every immoral thing to ever happen and the invention of contraception.
“Perhaps less taboo, but I also believe the death penalty is murder.” God killed about 2 million people in the Bible (http://tiny.cc/d35iw), and his fan club of Christianity? They’ve killed their fair share of Muslims, Jews, heretics, Natives, etc. as well. And “loving your enemy” won’t work out so well for you if your enemy is a homicidal rapist. *sarcasm* Unless God intervenes to save you.
“In keeping with this, I believe that the government mandate requiring all employers, hospitals, and charitable organizations (regardless of religion) is not only unconstitutional, but immoral in every way.” Again, I fail to see how this is true at all. Like I said, the U.S. is a Secular Democracy so it only makes sense that all employers are looked at equally under the law, blind of religion. I don’t see why a church should receive any more benefits than a university should.
“What most of you imbeciles, in your blatant ignorance and lack of respect, have failed to mention, is that it’s not as SIMPLE as saying, ‘If you don’t believe in abortions, don’t get one. If you don’t believe in contraception, don’t use it. If you want to pray, do it at home.’” Well obviously it’s not that simple. So long as there are ignorant, bigoted people on earth, they will continue to express their ignorant, bigoted views. Huzzah for the 1st amendment!
“Furthermore, the argument, ‘If you don’t believe in contraception, don’t use it,’ is completely irrelevant in this case. Whether we choose to make use of that coverage or not, we’re still funding it for other people.” LOL but that’s how taxes work. Liberals certainly didn’t like the two wars that the Bush administration put us through but they had to fund it anyway (and those were WARS, not birth control pills).
“Since, being Christians and all, we don’t turn people away (employees OR those in need of assistance)” LOLOLOL what about the gays!? All those Christian gays just trying to fit in get rejected by you people every.day. And right, it must be that good-spirited Christian nature that prompted the members of the Catholic Church to aid Nazi war criminals escape jurisdiction as well, wasn’t it?
“They said “a study” showed that 98% of Catholic women use contraception. (Many of you have gladly used this as ammo as well.) That is also a lie. First of all, even if it were true, people who say they’re Catholic and choose to use contraception (or support gay marriage, or the death penalty, etc.)…really just aren’t. Bottom line.” Here are the facts (http://www.guttmacher.org/media/resources/Religion-FP-tables.html), that’s still a lot of Catholics. And I didn’t know you decided who was Catholic and who wasn’t. Plus, being catholic isn’t much to brag about, considering the fact that Catholicism, is without a doubt, the most violent, hateful, bigoted form of Christianity in history.
“That’s like saying “I’m not a racist, but I think that such and such a race is blah blah blah because blabbity blah.” Well, either you are or you aren’t; there’s no grey area. But I digress.” OMG! Contradictory much? Well then Christians can’t pick and choose from the Bible either! Believe all of it, or none of it! There’s no gray area! It’s not surprising people pick and choose from the Bible though. I mean, I wouldn’t want to associate myself with something that preached so much rape, slavery, infanticide and other atrocities.
Paragraph starting with “Finally, I’d just like to say”: Well, the government does respect all beliefs, but that doesn’t mean they won’t treat everyone equally and give everyone equal rights, that’s kinda their job. I don’t think this is what you meant here but if it is, I really don’t like how people try to victimize Christianity in America. It’s just annoying and unnecessary; there is obviously no “War on Christianity” in America. And lastly, I like how you ended your paragraph. I honestly didn’t read the whole paragraph before typing this and if I had, I probably wouldn’t have been as condescending I was but, oh well. You’re not as bigoted as I assumed you were.
OH, and picking an impartial website (instead of a Catholic one) as a source probably would’ve been best.
