My parents think all gays fit their stereotypes…

so, naturally, they assume that they’re all

  • hygienic
  • well-dressed
  • kind/good-natured
  • un-aging
  • fabulous singers/dancers
  • and sassy (to an extent)

When people say they have a “legitimate” argument against gay marriage.

The majority of voters decided to ban gay marriage, not one party or another. But in the grand scheme of things it’s an irrelevant issue.

Irrelevant to you, because you’re straight and cisgender. And it’s easy to go “majority rules” when you belong to a majority, and if your rights would be put on vote, you couldn’t lose.
And are we supposed to just take it as a coincidence how much opposition to LGBT civil rights, and Republican support overlap? Are we supposed to ignore how much the party is, in so many ways, trying to stop any advancement of LGBT civil rights?

You can certainly associate opposition to LGBT issues with the GOP but that doesn’t bother me. Economic issues are measurably more important. The economy affects more people. Is the right for gay people to get married so important that the will of the majority must be invalidated? Some rights are that important, but I don’t think the right to get married is.

You sir, are a cunt. Interracial couples are also a minority. If the majority of citizens in a state decided to ban interracial marriage in a state, does that make it okay? Does that make it an irrelevant issue? Does that make it none of your concern? You, as a citizen of a democratic republic, have the responsibility of speaking out when government makes the wrong decisions. There has only been one amendment that has ever been nullified and that was the amendment that prohibited alcohol. You can’t deny citizens basic rights, whether that’s what they choose to consume consensually or what they chose to partake in consensually. And I think that getting married to someone you love is far more important than drinking alcohol. You yourself said “Some rights are that important, but I don’t think the right to get married is.”.It doesn’t matter if you think it is or isn’t; it’s a basic civil right and, to echo Rachel Maddox, civil rights should not have to be voted on. You say marriage isn’t important to you, but let’s see how quickly you’d take that back if you fell in love with your dream partner and then was cruelly denied the right to marry (and all the benefits that come with it) just because you were a minority.

To invalidate the will of the majority you also have to use government force, something you appear to object to. Sometimes it’s justified, sometimes it’s not. You have to consider cultural values and the degree of injury such a prohibition causes. North Carolina is a largely Christian, conservative state and I don’t think the people should be forced to accept something that is culturally unacceptable when the injury of prohibiting it is not anything like severe. In the interests of social harmony I think each state should be able to decide on this issue.

Conservative, Christian values also allow slavery and if I’m not mistaken, that little debacle led North Carolina to secede the Union. I’m not saying there will ever be a Civil War over gay rights in America, in fact, I believe that after a few decades, all the hateful, conservative pricks will have likely passed away and gay marriage will be smiled upon just like interracial marriage is today. It won’t take government force to legalize gay marriage, all it’ll take is a Supreme Court decision (just like in the case of interracial marriage).

Straight talk about Gay rights (-Fck H8)  Talk to me here.

You take an image of Westboro Baptists and Neo Nazis and you expect to have a credible opinion?
Also, Nazis are socialists and far left, much like Communists are, just the stepping stone of communism. They killed collectively over 100,000,000 people , including homosexuals. Does the Pink Triangle ring any bells to you?
In America we have this thing called freedom of speech, right to peaceful assembly  and the right to not be persecuted by the government for such things. It’s these things that have made some of those radical groups not mainstream and generally looked down upon , because they are given as much equal rights as atheists, anarchists, communists and picketers of these sorts. And since they are given equal rights as the rest of us are instead of being banned or shoved underground, these groups don’t have to resort to terrorist acts.
Banning certain groups from speaking just because you don’t like them isn’t the solution and neither is the legalization of any marriage. You may argue that marriages have existed prior to Christianity, but it was only the concept. By using the word marriage in the secular realm, you are implying that the State has an established religion in of itself, which goes against the 1st Amendment.
What you and people really want is a civil union that guarantees the basic rights in the marriage license like hospital visits for all unions between two consenting people, but that’s by far a non-issue in comparison to the economy, which has to be fixed first prior to any of these social non-issues.
This whole thing that we need to see these social issues as the most important is baloney.
Too much bias in this picture, there is .

Wow, great job completely missing the point of the picture and being a huge douche bag. To start off with, the picture is not saying in any way, shape or form that the Nazi’s and the Westboro Baptist Church should be silenced or censored. Yes, Freedom of Speech grants them the right to say whatever they want.
What the picture is saying is that if you have the right to hate then you should also have the right to love. That is all it is saying. It is not saying anything about socialism (which I won’t even begin to correct you on, you obviously are not a student of history) or Christianity or the history of marriage (again, you are wrong).
It is also not saying that marriage equality is the most pressing issue we face but it is on the list. People are passionate about it, just as the Nazi’s are passionate about what they say, just as the Westboro people are passionate about what they say. If you want freedom of speech for the top two, you have to give it to everyone else as well.
Also, trying to sound like Yoda does not make your sound more intelligent than you actually are. Free advice there.

And to add on to what Mac said, monogamy and matrimony are not religious concepts. Monogamy predates civilization itself and plenty of irreligious heterosexual couples get married every year. State regulated marriage is not at all a sign of state religion at all. Do you even understand the concept of State established religion? State established religion is like what existed in Stalinist Russia? Having state regulated marriages just allows people to get married secularly and to be guaranteed their rights as a married couple. And just give them marriage. Fuck “civil unions”. Brown vs Board of Ed, bro; “Separate is inherently unequal.”

Seriously. In case you all didn’t know, this guy is a homophobic cunt. I’d love the chance to debate him.

Maybe someday I’ll actually be able to use Baehr v. Miike/Lewin in a debate about gay marriage.

Then again, I’ve never had any anti-marriage equality conversation last little more than a few minutes. Like I’ve said, there’s no legitimate argument against it.

Someday, there may come a day that someone can stump me on why gay marriage is detrimental. That day, is not today.

Nbd, just a couple of 16 year old boys discussing something that 30 or so states can’t seem to realize.

May 8

On an unrelated note,

fuck you North Carolina. Fucking bigots. Go secede again, you’re not welcome here.

Take a moment of your time to reblog this, to show respect for the man who was beaten and burnt to death for being gay.

Rest In Peace Stuart Walker. A 28 year old, gay man who was beaten and tied to a lamp-post at the earlier hours of Saturday morning. He was then set on fire, and burnt to death. Homosexuality is found in over 400 species, homophobia is found in one. So, which is natural now?

Holy shit. This is why I’m such a vocal liberal. Because this type of shit shouldn’t happen. Ever. Especially not in a developed country.

It really peeves me when other guys say “no homo” after giving another guy a compliment. Like, seriously bro? Are you that uncomfortable with your sexuality that you have to assert the fact that you’re straight just to compliment another man?

Or are you just a homophobic bigot?

If your son is gay, that’s a product of you…

You put the semen and the egg together

That’s your genes and shit in there

Your son or daughter didn’t ask to be born how they look

They didn’t ask for those features

They didn’t ask to be born gay

So treat them with the same respect you would treat your straight children because they’re a product of you, you made them
