Instead they try jamming atheism down our throats by not expressing our religion.
Um well, I LOVE Community so I couldn’t let this one slide. Jeff is agnostic. Britta is the atheist. AND, excuse me? I’m sorry, but atheists don’t go door to door w/ pamphlets, or travel to developing nations on conversion missions, or preach hate against other people of other demographics (religious or not). Shirley is right though. Most atheists do think religion is stupid, but that doesn’t mean that we try to go out and convert others or “preach” atheism. Heck, most of us couldn’t give a fuck what a person’s religion is, we just get pissed off when people use religion to justify bigotry or when people try to stick religion into places like government or public schools.
Oh, you’re not pissing us off at all. You’re just making yourself look like an idiot. You should learn the difference. :)

I probably have no place in this convo, but…umm…most religions are based on make-believe though. Assuming you’re Christian, many many things in the Bible have been proven to be false or extremely unlikely (you’d think an omnipotent God would at least remember how old the planet he created was). “What proof do you really have?” really? One could ask you the same question. Just because we haven’t seen God isn’t the only argument we have either, there’s far more evidence going against a God or Creator than there is supporting one…actually, I can’t think of any evidence supporting one. Personally, I’d like to think that our news is fairly accurate, I’m an atheist, not a conspiracy theorist…I mean, that is, unless you’re watching Fox News. Fox News is just a joke. But atheists in America actually tend to be fairly well educated and definitely know far more about religion than any other demographic (as shown in the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey). Personally, I’m only a sophomore in high school so it’ll take me until at least next year to fulfill my diploma credit requirements, but I’ll gladly admit to any faults you might find in my argument. But yeah, most atheists do do a lot of research on religion, that’s why we become atheists; it’s not because we don’t want to believe, our sense of logic and science doesn’t let us. And lastly, I don’t think atheism is a “joke”; there’s plenty of logic and science behind it. Atheists have contributed many great things to society including the innovations that led to the computer you’re using, your Facebook profile, and your iPod (Gates, Zuckerberg, and Jobs). There’s tons of openly atheist celebrities, scientists, and cultural icons and being around 15% of America already and being one of the fastest growing demographics in the States, I doubt we’ll be going away soon….Well, I guess that’s the end of my rant.
